Matrix switcher - A means of selecting an input source and connecting it to one or more outputs. Similar to a switcher, but with multiple inputs and multiple outputs. @teqgear

MB - Megabyte. A megabyte is 1,048,576 bytes. @teqgear

Mbps - Megabits per second. A unit of measurement for data transmission. @teqgear

Megahertz - MHz. One million hertz (cycles per second). @teqgear

Milli - m. Abbreviation for one one-thousandth. Current is usually express as milliamps. @teqgear

Monitor - A display screen used to present output from a computer, video camera, VCR or other video generator. @teqgear

MPEG - Motion Picture Experts Group. An ISO/ITU standard for compressing digital video. @teqgear

MPEG-2 - MPEG-2 provides broadcast quality video with resolutions up to 1920x1080. It supports a variety of audio/video formats, including legacy TV, HDTV. Data rates range from 1.5 to 60 Mbps. @teqgear

MPEG-4 - MPEG-4 is an extremely comprehensive system for multimedia representation and distribution. A major feature of MPEG-4 is its ability to identify and deal with separate audio and video objects in the frame, which allows separate elements to be compressed more efficiently and dealt with independently. @teqgear

MTBF - Mean Time Between Failures.The average time a component or device works without failure.@teqgear

Networking - A system that transmits any combination of voice, video and/or data between users. @teqgear

Noise - Any unwanted signal. Noise can come from strong electrical or magnetic signals in nearby lines, from poorly fitting electrical contacts and from power line spikes. @teqgear

NTSC - National TV Standards Committee. The committee that developed the television standards for the U.S, which are also used in Canada, Japan, South Korea and several Central and South American countries. The television standard for North America and parts of South America has 525 lines/60 Hz (60 Hz refresh), two fields per frame and 30 frames per second. It is a color modulation scheme. @teqgear

Oscilloscope - An electronic instrument that produces an instantaneous trace on the screen of a cathode-ray tube corresponding to oscillations of voltage and current. @teqgear

Output - Output is the energy, power, or work produced by a system. The signal derived from any audio or video device is also called output.. @teqgear

PC - Personal Computer. @teqgear

PCB - Printed Circuit Board. @teqgear

PDF - Portable Document Format file. The file format in Adobe's Acrobat document exchange technology. Acrobat/PDF is a computer file format for publishing and distributing electronic documents (text, image, or multimedia) with the same layout, formatting, and font attributes as in the original. The files can be opened and viewed on any computer or operating system; however, special software is required. @teqgear

Peak - Highest level of signals strength. @teqgear

Peak-to-peak - Difference between the maximum positive and maximum negative values of an AC waveform. It is Abbreviated as "p-p." @teqgear

Peripheral device - Normally an external device that a CPU communicates with it. More specifically the term is used to describe those devices that are optional in nature. Such as a printer, mouse, disk drive, or interface. @teqgear

Phase - The relative timing of one signal to another, usually expressed in degrees of shift. @teqgear

Pin out - Pinout is a term used in electronics to describe how an electrical connector is wired. Each pin of the connector has a purpose which is briefly described in the pinout. @teqgear

Pixel - The smallest addressable unit on a display screen or bitmapped image. @teqgear

Power (electrical) - Energy dissipated in an electrical or electronic circuit or device by passing a current per unit of time. Electric power is usually measured in Watts, kilowatts (1,000 watts), and megawatts (1,000,000 watts). @teqgear

Presentation device - A general term used to define a video projector, plasma display, presentation monitor, or other large format data display device. @teqgear

Primary colors - All visible colors can be created using the primary colors. In video, the primary colors are red, green, and blue. Equal amounts of red, green, and blue make white; the absence of all colors makes black. @teqgear
